TRAINING PARTNERS
Over the last three decades of training, I’ve had many training partners. Each one of them brought something special to that phase of my training and we developed a great bond that I think back and smile on. But how do you find a good training partner?
First, what does a training partner do? At the end of the day, the most important aspect is to help you have a better training session than you would otherwise training alone. There are multiple aspects to this including spotting (after all, you can’t have a good workout if a bar falls on your head), pushing the intensity, providing ideas and options, and is also motivating.
However I think one of the most important aspects of a great training partner is the accountability they provide. Someone that is there when they say they will be and expect you to do the same. This aspect alone makes someone worth their weight in gold and truthfully, sometimes is the hardest quality to find.
Technique and preferences can be developed in a great training partner. However, if you can find the quality of consistency, then that is the first aspect I’m looking for.
Once you have a training partner that you can count on, and they can count on you, then that is where a great partnership is formed and watch the progress start accelerating!
